I used this incubator for several years to hatch blue and gold macaw eggs from day one. Every single fertile egg hatched and all but two babies made it to adulthood resulting in 14 healthy weaned blue and gold macaws. Once I was done raising macaws, I loaned the incubator to friends who successfully used it to incubate chicken eggs with much, much better results than styrofoam incubators (even those with forced air). Brinsea continues to improve on this incubator all the time making it better and better. Whether you simply raise chickens or want to raise more exotic birds from finches to macaws (yes, it will handle all those egg sizes), it is almost impossible to mess up using this incubator. I actually had two of them at the height of my breeding period and I’d use one to incubate and one to hatch. Once I was officially done raising birds, I sold them on e-Bay with the buy-it-now feature and got almost two thirds of what they sold for brand new despite them being used for several seasons. This incubator is very much in demand among experienced breeders and used ones are very hard to find because people just don’t give them up once they start using them, they are really that good a product. You do not have to spend thousands of dollars to get an incubator that will work. This incubator with auto turn cradle and even the extra add ons available to make it even more high tech is less than $1000 and works like a champ.

This incubator is awesome and does all that it promises, but… The humidity pump and padded egg racks for tiny eggs are not included! I had to call the manufacturer and rush-order the humidity pump when I already had eggs going in.

Having said that, unless you live in a very dry climate or one where the humidity fluctuates, you might get by without it. Chickens, ducks, quail, peacocks, pheasants, etc. would all do excellent in this without the pump.

But if you want to hatch fragile little exotic parrot eggs like I did, you probably should spring for the pump too.

Overall, an excellent value for the price!! Now, if only I could afford the Brinsea Octagon Brooder that matches it too… :-)
